Iran rose harvest and rose water festival has a long history of more than two thousand years with Meymand in Fars Province being among the leading producers of rosewater in the country.
April and May are called the harvesting months of flowers in Fars Province. In these months, Meymand county, 120 km off Shiraz city, is scented with fragrant Damask roses, known as Gol-e Mohammadi in Iran. More than 5,000 tonnes of flowers are harvested annually from flower gardens, which are sent to different cities of the country, including Kashan, for extracting rose water.
Below are some recent shots of the harvest in Meymand.
All the magic begins with harvesting. The rose water extraction traditionally begins long before sunrise to preserve the unique aroma of the flower.
This type of rose is considered as part of the spiritual and cultural heritage of people in Iran.
